A“Conch Republic Navy Hurricane Relief Fundraisers”,

Avast Matey! On behalf of the organizers of Pirates in Paradise Festival 2004 and the Conch Republic Navy, we invite you to join us for several festive fundraisers designed to raise money and much needed relief supplies for our island neighbors who were devastated by the series of hurricanes that plagued us this fall. Monies raised and supplies donated at each event will be designated for existing hurricane relief efforts in Haiti, and for the Conch Republic Flagship Wolf’s upcoming Mission of Mercy Sail to West End, Grand Bahama (scheduled for December 2004.)

Each of these fundraisers will feature scrumptious buffets and live entertainment. There will also be hurricane themed games of chance (such as the Hurricane Velcro Dart Toss, Hurricane Bean Bag Toss & Pin the Hurricane on the Map) and chance drawings for a variety of gifts donated by local Florida Keys businesses.

Conch Republic “Hurricane Relief Olympics”
& El Meson de Pepe’s Caribbean Pirate’s Buffet & Silent Auction
Date/Time: Tuesday, November 30, 2004 ~ 5- 8 p.m.
Location: El Meson de Pepe/Mallory Square
# of Guests: Estimated attendance is 500 people
Items Needed: Silent Auction Items & Hurricane Relief Supplies (canned goods, baby food/clothing, beans, rice, etc.)
Ticket Price: $20 per person/Proceeds to benefit Hurricane Relief Efforts to West End, Grand Bahama & Haiti

*Help celebrate the last day of Florida’s hurricane season! In addition to serving as a fundraiser for several relief efforts, this event also serves a dual purpose, as Stuart Newman & Associates, the Monroe County Tourist Development Council’s public relations firm, plans to capture highlights of the event on film to broadcast a “show moment” to media networks around the world, reminding the public that Key West and the Florida Keys are open for business…and to show the world Key West was not affected by any of the devastating storms that attacked our state earlier this fall.

*The First Annual Conch Republic Hurricane Relief Olympics is seeking six member teams to compete with pirate crews from around the country and other locals. Outfitted in fins and goggles, teams will race against each other to see who can complete a series of hurricane-related tasks in the shortest amount of time (activities include bagging & carrying the most groceries, taping a window blindfolded, mixing a margarita, carrying the most water, and filling a bag of sand.) Six member teams can sign up for just $50 per team to vie for a chance to win a variety of prizes & gift certificates donated by local Florida Keys businesses.

Event: Conch Republic Shipwreck Ball & Scurvy Crew Cast Party
Date/Time: Sunday, December 5, 2004 ~ 5 – 9 p.m.
Location: Fort Taylor at Fort Taylor Historic State Park, foot of Southard Street
# of Guests: Estimated attendance is 200 people
Items Needed: Raffle Prizes, Cash & Relief Supplies (IE: canned goods, baby food/clothing, beans, rice, etc.)
Ticket Price: $40 per person

*Join the Friends of the Fort, members of the Conch Republic Navy and the for a swashbuckling evening. Enjoy a traditional Pirate Feast dinner inside Fort Taylor (proceeds will be shared with Friends of the Fort, Keys Education’s Wooden Boat Building Program and the Conch Republic Navy Hurricane Relief Fund.) Live entertainment provided by The Thryce Wycked Wenches, Pyrates of the Coast and others.
