Official End of America's Hurricane Season Party & Conch Republic Shipwreck Ball at the USS Mohawk (WPG-78) Truman Waterfront Pier

Key West, Florida Keys...Admiral Finbar, the High Command of the Conch Republic Military and the Pirates in Paradise Crewe invite one and all to join them to honor the end of the 2007 hurricane season, which fortunately for all, was another extremely calm one. Festivities kick off on Friday, November 30 at 4 p.m. with the Walk the Plank National Championships aboard the WOLF, where contestants will vie for the honor and glory of becoming the 2007 Champion as they dive to their watery graves, pleading for their miserable lives and competing for valuable prizes.

At 5 p.m. the community gathers for a special ceremony at the USS/CGC/HMS MOHAWK (WPG-78) Truman Waterfront Pier. NOAA's weather forecaster Matt Strahan (also the Conch Republic Navy “Official Weather Guesser”) and his crew, will ceremoniously burn the Hurricane Flags, signifying the official end of the 2007 Hurricane Season.

At 6 p.m., sailors, pirates and wenches will join the Conch Republic military brass for an evening of dancing under the stars to the big band sounds of Mike Emerson’s Southernmost Brass Band. Joining the band for a special guest appearance is Jazz legend “Queen of Swing” Norma Miller (the Conch Navy’s own USO Girl who is in town to celebrate her 88th birthday) who has shared the stage with such luminaries as Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis, Bill Cosby, Louie Armstrong, Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor.

At 7 p.m., the public is invited to enjoy a festive Pirate’s Buffet & Dessert Bar, catered by What a Dish and Henrietta’s Art of Baking. Proceeds from the Silent Auction and Conch Republic Navy Peace Bond sales will benefit for the Key West Maritime Historical Society, MOHAWK Memorial Museum, One Human Family and Friends of Fort Taylor’s Pirate Fest.

At 8:30 p.m. Fairvilla Megastore is hosting a Pirate Fashion Show and immediately following is a Costume Contest with prizes for Best Pirate and Wench. There will also be sea shanties and piratical entertainment by the Bone Island Buccaneers and Pirates of the Coast.

Sponsored in part by Pirate’s Choice Rum, Cypress House, Courtyard by Marriott, PEPSI Refreshment Services and La Te Da, the party is FREE until 6pm. Pirate’s Ball First Mate Tickets are $10, Captain’s Dinner Tickets are $25 and Admiral VIP Dinner Tickets (includes special seating and an open bar) are $50. Add $5 for all tickets purchased at the door. Please RSVP to Julie & Admiral Finbar by November 27 at (305) 296-9694 or by email to Info@PiratesInParadise.com.
